| The "postcard" used on this site's home page is actually a reproduction of a print by Tom Killion, a Bay Area artist and one of my oldest friends. Tom hand-carves all his prints and prints them himself; every print is of a real place, and Tom is scrupulous about getting every detail right and hitting that exalted note that brings a scene alive. Here‚s an example: The first time I saw this print (not knowing its title) I said, "Evolution Valley!" I could remember casting for trout at this very point on the river in 1967, and making camp in those rocks on the other side just as an enormous thunderstorm hit. That's why I chose this particular print, which is indeed named "Evolution Valley from McClure's Meadow," for this website.
