A TIDE IN TIME is the first volume in THE LOG OF MATTHEW ROVING, a series of time-traveling sea novels covering the American Revolutionary period (1772-1783), told from the point of view of a modern teenage boy, Matthew, and his slightly older sister, Abby, who find themselves embarked on a quest that has both personal and historical implications.

The book began as sixteen chapters written and published serially by Naval History magazine from 2000-2004, under the aegis of editor in chief Fred Schultz. Illustrations were provided by Jan Adkins, a highly respected artist as well as writer. At the conclusion of the serial, I was named as "Author of the Year" by the U.S. Naval Institute, the publisher of Naval History, and Adkins was named "Illustrator of the Year." Examples of Adkins‚ work are used on this page and elsewhere on this site; for more about him and his studio, go to www.janadkins.com/

Since the conclusion of the serial, I have been working on a full-length and much more complex version of the Matthew Roving saga. At this time (spring 2005) the full manuscript is nearly done and will be shortly going out to publishers. As news of the project comes in, it will be reported in this space.

In the meantime, those wishing to mull over the occasional thoughts and ramblings of the author are invited to visit his soapbox/pulpit: A Salty Blog, at http://asaltyblog.blogspot.com.
