| A TIDE IN TIME is the first volume in THE LOG OF MATTHEW ROVING, a series of time-traveling sea novels covering the American Revolutionary period (1772-1783), told from the point of view of a modern teenage boy, Matthew, and his slightly older sister, Abby, who find themselves embarked on a quest that has both personal and historical implications. The book began as sixteen chapters written and published serially by Naval History magazine from 2000-2004, under the aegis of editor in chief Fred Schultz. Illustrations were provided by Jan Adkins, a highly respected artist as well as writer. At the conclusion of the serial, I was named as "Author of the Year" by the U.S. Naval Institute, the publisher of Naval History, and Adkins was named "Illustrator of the Year." Examples of Adkins‚ work are used on this page and elsewhere on this site; for more about him and his studio, go to www.janadkins.com/ | ![]() Illustration by Jan Adkins. Used by permission. |
